Winter has quickly sprung upon us! Summer has long gone and the colder days are drearily creeping up on us. The winter weather can be both beautiful and very dangerous – the roads (and your driveway) will most likely be covered in snow and ice during these frosty conditions. Therefore, it is important to keep your driveway maintenance active over the winter months, which means adding a little more TLC to your driveway.

Apply Grit or Salt

Applying salt to your driveway in the winter months is the best way to prevent any ice forming, and can help melt away the ice or frost that has formed there already. Using salt on your driveway won’t harm your driveway in any way, but will make it safer, cleaner, and more aesthetically pleasing through winter!

Remove Excess Snow

If your driveway is already an unintentional winter wonderland, using a plastic spade will be a safe way of scooping up any excess snow or ice from your driveway. With a bonded resin driveway, as there are no loose stones or cobbles, you can easily scoop excess snow without creating any additional mess. We don’t recommend using a metal spade when scooping up snow/ice from your driveway as it can damage your resin and the force of the metal can dig into the surface of your driveway.

Remove Weeds and Dirt

As an overall maintenance routine, we recommend using a stiff bristled brush to help remove dirt from the surface of your driveway. Using a hose pipe at the same time will help to make your driveway looks as clean and new as possible. It is unlikely for weeds to grow through a bonded resin driveway, however if they do then use the appropriate weed killer to ensure they are removed. Removing excess dirt and any weeds will ensure that cracks do not begin to appear as the change in temperature causes the natural expansion and contraction of the driveway.
